National Elementary Honor Society

The National Elementary Honor Society (NEHS) provides students with a place to develop and apply their passion for service, while obtaining the skills to be confident young leaders for years to come. NEHS membership is centered on recognizing students for their accomplishments while challenging and equipping them to develop further as leaders through service to their school and community.

Reflecting school leaders’ profound commitment to student leadership development, the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) founded NEHS in 2008 in partnership with the National Association of Elementary School Principals.

The NEHS program empowers and equips students with the knowledge and skills to be transformative

leaders in their school, community, and beyond. In addition, it provides a necessary bridge between students and school leaders - helping educators to engage and hear what students think, feel, and need.

Scholarship

Scholarship is more than a report card; it represents a dedicated commitment to lifelong learning. Scholarship requires consistent effort, with a goal to contribute positively to the world through one’s own knowledge, skills, and experiences.

Service

Service represents the choice of stepping outside oneself to meet the needs of others. It’s about performing selfless acts that go beyond the ordinary, creating changes that move through our school and travel across our community.

Leadership

Leadership is more than a position or title. It’s about inspiring peers through your actions, nurturing a collaborative environment, and championing positive change. Student leaders embrace the responsibility of shaping their academic community, all while fostering personal growth and development.

Responsibility

The responsible student is one who demonstrates many positive qualities, including high standards of honesty and reliability; a cooperative and supportive disposition, courtesy, concern, and respect of others; and good citizenship. Responsibility can be demonstrated in the student's behavior at school, at home, and in the community.

Membership Criteria

All A’s and/or B’s on your current and previous semester report cards.
No discipline referrals this school year.
No N’s or U’s for ‘Conduct’ or ‘Work Habits’ on current and previous semester report card.
Demonstrate scholarship, leadership, character, and citizenship.
Maintain an excellent attendance record (this includes no more than 10 absences, 10 tardies, 10 early dismissals).
Complete 5 hours of meaningful community service for non-family during the summer.

Announcements and Events

We will meet from 3:00-4:00 on the 1^st Thursday of each month. Any changes to the schedule will be relayed by an email from the club sponsors.

Dues are $5.00.

May - Eligibility letters handed out

August - Parent Meeting - Summer volunteer hours due and applications handed out

September – 1^st Meeting – Applications Due

Prospective officers run for office

October - 2^nd Meeting – Election Day and Induction Rehearsal

November - Start monthly meetings
